AEC Road Train sent in Australia from Great Britain in 1934. The 8x8 tractor pulled 2 Dyson trailers and the whole had 24 wheels. The restored vehicle is now on display at the

National Road Transport Hall of Fame, Alice Springs.

AEC 8x8 Government Roadtrain supplied to Australia and preserved at Alice Springs. Built in England in the 20s, it was the first of 8x8 truck. It travelled off-road 2 million km in Northern Territory from 1934 to 1946. The AEC's steering was by front and rear axles.

RTCST (Rough Terrain Container Straddle Truck) of Standard Manufacturing Company built a prototype with US Army's Belvoir Research for moving containers from barge through surf over beaches. Best post on 8x8s I've found on the web so far.
Needs expanding though with more technical details and input from knowledgable enthusiasts, particularly on the older vehicles, where I've been frustrated by the historic military vehicle websites that seem mostly to be populated by rivet counters as opposed to cross country vehicle engineering enthusiasts.
